Colorado Mulie
Just back from a Colorado DIY Mule deer hunt. It was day #3 and we had seen many deer and a number of borderline bucks. I had sprained my ankle pretty good day 1 so mobility was an issue.
It was mid morning and up ahead there were two bucks on the hillside. They spotted us and started running from our left to right. My buddy Randy said the lead buck looked good. As they got to the timber and started walking I took an off hand shot at about 100 yards. I aimed for the high shoulder shot and he dropped in his tracks. He gross scored 146 5/8" and his teeth are so wore down we believe he is 7 or 8 years old. We sent in a tooth to be officially aged. Figured he dresses in the 180lbs range. A great morning! My friend Matt also took a similar buck as well. His grossed 146" even. |
The mule deer out there are impressive. They are not skittish like white tales. They run 100 yards, turn around, look at you, and access the danger level.
I'd love to do a guided mule deer hunt, but the prices are steep. I couldn't see spending $2,000 on a deer. Maybe one day. |
Those are some awesome deer congrats! Hope the ankle heals fast
