270 WSM for moose
I am considering using my 270 WSM with Winchester Accubond CT 140 grainers for moose this fall, anyone have any on game experience they can share with this calibre on moose or elk

That would work with a good shot.I would use a heavier bullet? maybe a 180 grain?
|
I think I'd want to go as heavy as possible, 160...150...140grs and probably use one of the TSX bullet variations.
|
I would say it should be a good caliber and bullet choice although like said a heavier bullet might give more confidence. Lots of people hunt them around here with 30-06 and 180 grain TSX and I believe your ballistics are better.

What yardage are you thinking?
|
50 to 75 yards max, here in Southwestern Ontario, the bush is thick and dense but we drew a Cow tag at Thunder Bay Ontario this fall. This area has a lot of logging taken place so longer shots are the rule (100 to 300 yards)

The 270 wsm with the 140 CT will do the job just fine.
|
I wouldn't hesitate to use that.

That 140 gr. is a good choice..

The .270 WSM is plenty. I killed my moose with a 30-06..200 grain Nosler Partitions. Two others in camp when I was there came with a pair of .308's loaded with 150 grains (not sure what make). The guides were not happy as they were told to bring nothing smaller than a 30-06, but both hunters killed their bull with the .308's and they didn't travel very far.
