Alaska drop hunt

I am trying to plan a Caribou hunt for next year in the Brooks Range region of Alaska. Does anyone have any recommendations for a transporter?

Another one time poster asking for help and hasn't even logged back onto the site in the two weeks since he asked!

I have heard that one cannot hunt in some areas of Alaska without a guide unless one is an Alaska resident. The thought is that there is too much risk for non-residents going out without appreciating the hazards. His idea was a DIY sort of deal. Maybe he found out that was not legally permitted when he checked closer.

Can anyone comment on that? Is it legal for a non-resident to hunt unguided in a place like the Brooks Range?

Pretty sure it depends on what is being hunted. Non-Alaskans can hunt black bear, moose, caribou and deer without a guide but if they want to hunt sheep, goat, muskox or the 2 big bears they must be guided. Not sure what the rule for wolves is but I would think you could hunt them unguided as well.

Flags is correct in that it's what animals you want to hunt and not what area you hunt in that requires a guide in AK.

Brown bear and sheep require guide or 2nd degree of kindred to hunt. If you're serious about coming up shoot me a PM and I'll get you some flyout service numbers. Happy valley is popular as is kavik. If you're a bow hunter you need not fly out and can hunt road side on the dalton.
