MY my, Dr Palmer killed his lion legally
After his public excoriation it turns out the good Dr. was telling the truth all along and he will not be charged by anyone for killing his lion. There should be a lot of red faces in the media, but don't hold your breath! I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the PH is found not guilty or have the charges dropped and the same for the game park owner. The Government of Zimbabwe is trying to save face by charging them.
An American dentist who killed a prized Zimbabwean lion named Cecil will not be charged because he had obtained the legal authority to slay the animal, a minister in the country reportedly said Monday.
Walter Palmer, a 55-year-old dentist from Minnesota, sparked global outrage in July after he allegedly paid $50,000 to use a bow to hunt the animal — a tourist favorite and the subject of an Oxford University study.
But on Monday, Environment Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri told reporters, including Reuters, that Palmer's hunting papers were all in order and therefore he would not be charged.

"We approached the police and then the Prosecutor General, and it turned out that Palmer came to Zimbabwe because all the papers were in order," she said, according to the news agency.
Muchinguri Kashiri said Palmer was free to visit Zimbabwe as a tourist, but not as a hunter, Reuters said, implying he would not be issued the permits a hunter needs.
Zimbabwean officials had previously suggested they would seek Palmer's extradition over the killing.
Zimbabwean professional hunter Theo Bronkhorst is charged with breaching hunting rules during the hunt, in which Cecil was reportedly lured out of the Hwange National Park using bait. He and a game park owner, who has been charged with allowing the hunt, deny the charges.

I told everyone when this happened that it would be found to be legal. PHs are very careful when it comes to arranging hunts for things like lion, elephant and rhino. There hunts are very tightly regulated and they take violations very seriously.
But hey, what do I know, I've only hunted Africa multiple times.

There are still groups that intend to make trouble for Dr. Palmer, and the press reports still slant this as far as they can by using phrases like "will not be charged" and not stating that he is innocent of any crime.

No matter what is determined, at the end of the day there will always be a very vocal segment of society that will cry and moan over any animal any hunter takes. They don't care if it is a rabbit, a deer, a bear, a lion or an elephant. They see all hunting as evil and make no mistake about it they will do everything in their power to stop hunting.

His reputation, practice and family has already been destroyed by the media & the general public.
Guilty, even after proven innocent - how sad is that !!!
This is a "different" day and age we live in................................?!?!

Isn't it interesting how none of these people so offended at Cecil being killed during a hunt seem incapable of figuring out the obvious?? If one thinks carefully about ALL of the information that's come out, it's hard to escape some obvious facts and conjecture.
Zimbabwe issued the good dentist a hunting license/permit that made it legal to kill Cecil. Since Dr. Palmer is a hunter and not a tourist per se, it's unlikely that Dr. Palmer knew who Cecil was or his following, etc. As a major tourist draw and science study, however, it's highly unlikely that Zimbabwe didn't know who Cecil was. I guess the antis could delude themselves into thinking Zimbabwe is just incompetent but is that really a plausible conclusion about this whole mess? Or is it more likely that Zimbabwe is going after any $$ they can get and flat out miscalculated the fallout on this whole incident.
Dr. Palmer's life and probably practice will never be the same. I wish him well. I can't say the same thing for Zimbabwe or the thousands of hypocritical antis who are determined to trash his life and career just because they can and to make themselves feel morally superior (they're not even close on that).
