my understanding , the blocks of 10 chances only better your odds against non residents only. residents don't have the option to select extra blocks when they apply for a moose tag, they only get to use previous preference points. my bear guide told me for a non resident, you would have to have around 350-400 points to be on the same level with a resident to get picked for a bull only. with over 50k each year in the lottery, the blocks of 10 are just a donation unless you buy tons of them.

In Maine, the resident and non-resident Moose draws are totally
Separate. Non-residents get 10 percent of the available tags.

A non-resident buying 1 chance has about a 1 in 700 chance
Of getting drawn,so yes you need to buy a lot of chances
To have a good shot at getting a tag. Unless you always win
In Vegas.

I am glad I started applying 20 years ago when apps were paper and snuck in with a WY tag in 2011 and New Hampshire in 2012. The systems and odds have blown up since then. In addition, lucky to have scored a small bull on the wolf infested WY hunt and a wallhanger in NH. The only place I am continuing is Maine, but only since I have 15+ NR points and my odds are multiplied by their convoluted system. I still don't expect to ever draw there. If I were going in on the ground floor today I would pass on all moose apps except for perhaps ID or CO (resident only). Best realistic option today is to save money and do an Ontario semi-guided hunt first to get your feet wet, then a guided Newfoundland hunt.

Now all I need is for Illinois to overhaul their outrageous and unsustainable state employee pension system so I can afford to actually buy a home decent enough to display my mount.

But my fiancée is not excited about it being in my apartment right now while I shop through rediculous priced homes in the burbs. :( I'm finding you need two six figure incomes just to survive around here.

I bet that moose is the first thing a person notices when they walk into your apartment!
