Huge CO Non-Typical Mulie

My cousin in Grand Junction sent me this pic. It shows a friend of his son with an absolute monster of a mulie buck. The deer was taken in CO's 2nd rifle season in unit 421 in the Grand Mesa Area. Looking at the photo I count 15 points on one antler and 14 on the other. The spread will be at least 40 inches.

As soon as they got to town they took the buck to the Grand Junction DOW office. The DOW supplied the hunter with the name of an official scorer for the B&C record book. The rack cannot be officially scored for at least a 60 day drying period but it should rank high in the book.

Not bad for a local guy hunting for meat on his own without a guide. This is truly a once in a lifetime buck!

Lotta bone.

I seen this picture from another source. Said the green score was 308+ inches 42" wide and 17 x 18 points. Truly a buck of a lifetime and possible NO 1 non typical mule deer. I thought those beasts were a thing of the past. It's a wonder there wasn't a rumor of this buck floating around campfires. Good thing all the professionals would have been after him.

I was just in CO. All I saw were 2x2's. 2x3's at the most. And they are not skittish like white tails.

That would be typical for mulie hunting. Like whitetails, the majority of the bucks will be younger animals and as such they don't have the survival instincts of an older animal. Mulies also behave differently than whitetails do. Always have, always will.

Awesome buck! Congrats to your cousin!

My first time in CO; I noticed the buck to doe ratio is highly skewed. Like 30 does to every buck.

My cousin didn't take the buck. A friend of his son did.

Are you talking about the CO muley population or the whitetails in Mississippi?

Very nice.

Ho-Lee-Crap.

That's borderline bizzare, ain't it?

Topgun 3006 11-13-2014 07:41 AM

I wonder if his Mama was bred by a bull elk, LOL!

Just for your information, the buck has been green scored at 311 B&C. If that score holds after the mandatory 60 day drying period it should put the buck at #9 or #10 in the world. The buck has 18 scoreable points on one side and 19 on the other with a 42 inch spread.

Wow! I knew 421 was a good unit but had no idea it could be that good! Any guess on how old you think that monster was?

Congrats! One heck of a mule deer! If that buck had lived in Arizona there would have been a thousand trail cam photos of him and he would have been sold to the highest bidder after some outfitter thought up a cool name for the deer and tracked his every move for three of four years! God was not sleeping when he made Colorado!

jls456 11-22-2014 09:46 AM

Wow! What a monster. Someday.......

Didn't take that clown long to wear out his welcome did it?

Topgun 3006 11-23-2014 11:30 AM

2 days on the site and banned may be a new record, LOL!

Yeah, it was pretty obvious that he wouldn't be around long. Not sure just what his issue was but he definitely had one. Good riddance.

That even looks like a ole' time photo.

Buck of a lifetime !!!
