Unit 55 colorado

Anyone seeing any action out there the weather has been crazy??

Muley Hunter 09-16-2014 12:33 PM

I don't go there until mid Oct.

What crazy weather?

I live in 55, weather has been typical so far for Sept. pretty warm out there right now. Saw a few nice bulls the past few days and a nice group of cows.

I'm headed there mid oct. also. I went scouting last weekend and saw two nice bulls. First time hunting the area, pretty steep terrain and very green still. I hope that it doesn't snow to much so it will make for an easier drive over cottonwood pass.

We better hope it doesn't snow too much, or they'll close Cottonwood Pass. I've seen it close in mid Oct on early winters. Unlikely, but still possible.

yep, OCT is fair game when it comes to snow. Last year during 1st rifle we had an easy 7-8 inches up wash gulch in a 2-3hr timespan.

Got a couple of cow tags for second season 55 here. As what's been said, weather is unpredictable in October, especially later in the month. Just look up the '97 oct blizzard. There's a couple of places we'll likely try. One area I have hunted before, but its some walking, the other will be new. Have long range and short range rifles, so we can adapt.

2nd or 3rd season? Got a 3rd season cow tag here.

It's been so hot/dry here lately, no prospect of significant snow until maybe next week either. Supposed to be a few inches of snow tonight above 10k, but then more above normal temps later this week.

Good luck!

55 has been getting snow for awhile.

not much to speak of compared to last year. A bit more snow in the extreme northern end of the zone up in rustlers gulch and north facing stuff above treeline, but otherwise it's pretty damn dry.

supposed to be 60 degrees friday/saturday at 9,000ft, the elk are definitely way up high still...hoping to get a few decent dumps before 3rd season!
