I have a .270 and 300winmag but my next gun is definitely 300wsm the great allrounder in my opinion. Will do all Australian game from hog deer to water buffalo

.300 WM vs .300WSM

I think at that point it has more to do with confidence (that you can shoot it - well ?!?!).

I agree that they shouldn't be lumped together. I love my Win Mag and would never sell it but I don't think I'd like to take on Hog Deer (around the size of your coues) with it. I reckon a 300wsm using Barnes ttsx or tsx 150's would be plenty enough without being too much

300 WSM. Hands down. Great ballistics. Plenty of ammo. I love the short action and the shorter barrel. It makes it much easier to carry all over the mountains.

The 300 WSM was recently the fatest growing big game caliber. I'm not sure if it still is but I would bet that it is.

.270 Winchester would be my favorite..it is the most versatile of all and the grip is just awesome..i really like the hood which pops around the back. This gun is just the best..does any one have a say on it.?

I wont mention on the wsm calibers since they are ment to mimic calibers that are already around just in a short action and at 100 yards anything would do,a 22 has killed many deer under and up to the range but id say the 7mm rem mag is the best.you can get rounds for it anywhere without breaking the bank and it out performs the 06.does it get any better?

I know most people will vote 30-06 to be one of the best, and god knows it has stood the test of time, however...if I could only pick one it would be either a 300WSM or WIN...I personally like the WSM better. My reason being the little extra reach it gives you and the capability of shooting a heavier bullet on the BIGGEST of game, even though a 30-06 would take out almost anything. Also, many say the 300win and WSM kick harder than 30-06, I do not find this to be exactly true...yes it does, but it is so unnoticable..especially in the 300WSM. Had the 300WSM came out when the 30-06...I think we would see the 300WSM being the champion, it is just too new of a cartridge to gain as HUGE a following. The only negative is the cost of ammo...almost twice that of 3006. I do like 270, they fly level and are easier on kick but I still want a 30cal bullet...call me old fashion. I personally would carry a 308 for shots from 0-200 yards and my 300WSM for anything beyond that.
