Muzzleloader Nebraska Mulies advice?

Hey everyone, I'm a whitetail hunter from Ohio and i'm looking to try some public land mulies in Nebraska come Dec. I looked online to figure out the regulations and all that but I don't really know which area of the state to hunt. Also I'm not sure what pattern the mulies will be on at that time of year or what size deer I can expect to see. I would greatly appreciate any advice, knowledge, or experience on this. Thanks very much

The northwestern part of the state is the basic mule deer area and where there would be public land to hunt. I know a fellow out in Chadron and he says there are a lot more whitetail deer to be had and taking a decent mulie buck is not very easy. That's probably the reason it's an OTC tag.

I am from Nebraska and I know that mulies are basically just in the western parts of the state. I have friends who rance out near Lexington and North Platte and they always see mulies, but tell me that they are seeing fewer and fewer. (The reason they say is that the white tails are overrunning them and pushing them out). I would say your best bet would be in that area, but stay away from the Platte river because that is the white tail haven. Good luck and maybe try an area near McCook?

As far as size goes with western mulies, the typical buck is the normal symmetrical 4x4 with a good amount of spread. Good luck and I hope you're successful. Kepp us updated and dont forget that you can buy your tag online starting Monday the 20th!!
