Took this 6x6 in Kentucky on 10/14/2012.

Had to butcher him in the field and hike him out a mile in the dark and rain. Most fun hunt of my life!!!!

Kentucky....? Seriously? Ive'd never heard of Elk in Kentucky.

Yup... they are down in the southeastern part of the state. They reintroduced them back in '97 and have a lottery system in place to hunt them. I was lucky enough to finally get drawn this year after putting in for the last 7 years.

Thats crazy. How many tags are they allowing each year?

Congrats on drawing a tag and harvesting a nice elk!! I've been putting in for over 5 years myself so far. Did you get help in Ky or DIY?

We decided to go out on our own. Everyone that we talked to told us that we could get a bull with a rifle without any problem.

They weren't kidding. We saw about 10-15 different bulls that i could have taken, and this was the biggest one of them all.

I'm sure i could have paid 1500$ to shoot a bull quicker and not have to do any of the work, and he might have been bigger, but then what fun would that be. I'd rather have a great story to share with friends than have someone have everything set up for me.

That hunt was the most fun weekend of my life!!!
