Federal Bear Claw or Nosler Partition
I am shooting the Savage 7mm. I was wondering which bullet does more damage to a deer out to 300 yards or less?

RE: Federal Bear Claw or Nosler Partition
You might as well flip a coin. Better to shoot the one that is the most accurate out of your rifle.

RE: Federal Bear Claw or Nosler Partition
Neither, they are a controled expansion. They will kill and do the job well, but better served for larger game.If you wan' t massive damage try 130 to 150 grain Ballistic Tips.

RE: Federal Bear Claw or Nosler Partition
i shoot around the same yardage with a .270 and have found both the bear claw and nos part to be equally effective i chose the nos part because it shoots slightly better around 2" groups at 300 yards the bear claw was around 3" both will do a great job on anything from antelope to moose. I have got a passthru on every animal i have taken to date.(antelope, muleys, elk, and a moose)
as for the ballistic tips they shoot great but they destroy alot of the animal and are not recommended for the larger game |
RE: Federal Bear Claw or Nosler Partition
From the sound of the question thats what he wanted, the most damage.
I also agree with the noslers,I shoot them in all my rifles.I like the 180 gr for every thing out of my .300' s and my ' 06. |
RE: Federal Bear Claw or Nosler Partition
The partition, without question.
The front portion gives great expansion the base continues on through the animal. The bear claw front portion does not expand as dramatically as the front of the partition. It holds together more and makes a bigger mushroom. This creates a less dramatic wound channel and usually less penetration overall. The partiton will lose 40% of its weight due to this greater expansion. The bear claw will not normally lose more than 5-10% of its weight. |
RE: Federal Bear Claw or Nosler Partition
Whichever shoots more accurately out of your gun. Can' t argue with any of the nosler partition arguments.
