Cut a nice thick bear steak.
Put some olive oil in a pan.
Cook to well done.
Remove from pan, and feed to the dog.

Cook a nice elk steak for yourself.

haha skin it, take the hide and head, and let the yotes have a crappy meal.

I love bear meat. I cook it the same as I do beef.

I'm the only one in these parts who'll eat it besides my turkey huntin' buddy, and we'll take all we can get.

Of course, I love coon, too. :s13:

Just be sure to adequately cook it. There is a risk of getting Trichinella. Pork and mountain lion are higher risk meats as well. Thoroughly cooking will kill it.

hahaha I got a kick out of that.. Your best bet is making sausage or pepperoni of some sort.. Some people like steaks, but those people are far and few between.

Alot of people make hamburger, pepperoni, and snack sticks out of them and its very good! About the elk comment, most people around dont have the money to go on a $8,000 elk hunt..

I've never bear hunted, but my buddy back in Wisconsin gets one every 4-5 years and will bring some out west for our hunts together. His bear has always been really good.

We've done roasts, steaks, a few different sausages and burgers. It's all been excellent. The burgers are my favorite hands down of any game animals I've ever had.

Not sure if it's so good because the bears are coming from farmland or it's just good meat?

I've been hunting elk since the 50's. I never saw a reason to pay for an elk hunt. Even when I lived out of state.
