Elk hunting advice...

So I'm from Louisiana and I have never hunted elk before. I have saved up shucking oysters for 2 years to go elk hunting. The only problem is that I am in college and that means that I could only hint during thanksgiving or Christmas break and everyguides website says they don't offer hunts during those times because of the seasons and whatnot. The only other option that ive come across is to hunt on one of those ranches but I font think id feel right about that. Would anyone care to enlighten me? Has anyone done any elk hunting on these ranches?

First good luck and I commend you on saving for yer hunt!

I can't offer much advice.

If you are talking about a 100 acre ranch where the elk come to the sound of the tractor cuz there may be some food associated OR a 10,000 acre ranch where the elk are on their own and free range those are apples and oranges.

Good luck on yer journey!

Any hunt that does not require you to buy a license is a canned hunt. I would personally rather shoot a cow elk on a real hunt than a big bull that is in a high fenced area.

Consider doing a "late" cow hunt. There are outfitters that offer them much cheaper than bull hunts and there should be some available over Christmas break.

I agree with txhunter.

Good luck on your hunt regardless on how you go.
