I made a post in whitetail...but it should probably be best fitted here..
Is this an elk, whitetail or any other type deer?
It was found dead in Canada tangled on a 10ft barb wire fence.
A little more detail of deer is in whitetail section/thread.

I say, Elk. Based on the general layout of the antlers.

Hmmmm, Interesting

I really can't say for sure, I'm no expert but if I had to GUESS I would have to say a Fallow Deer. Although fallows are not native to the US and Canada they are still imported for game ranches and other ventures. What gets me is the palmated split at the end of the main beam. This is common in fallow deer as well as the brow tines on your pic. They also get pretty big.

Another thing it could be is caribou which is native to Canada but caribou have a rocker type main beam to brow tine.

However it could also be an Elk with palmated beam. Like I said just guesses nothing set in stone but I did have fun researching it a bit.

Oh, PS it could be a hybrid too... you never know. However I wouldn't mind seeing a rack like this through my scope during season. :)

Thanks for all your time and thoughts on this to all
The fallow deer does look similar but I'm not gonna say it is 100%. :s4:
My old man says he's going to take it to his taxidermy man and rattle his brain a bit. :alien:
Here's a front view..looks pretty cool IMO.

The only info my friend would tell me (and I'm sure for good reasons :s4:) is that the buck was found "just outside Toronto area". He was pretty positive that the rack was from a whitetail but after receiving it I had to take a few pics and post it in here for some help on recognizing the type of deer it actually is.
My father really wants to hear that it is whitetail, but whatever it is, be it Fallow Deer or whatever - it is by far the biggest rack in his trophy room LOL. :arms:

Either way, if you find out for sure it would be awsome to find out... I'll keep a tab on this posting in the hopes you find out soon.

The length of the face and the narrow nose bridge is too small to be an elk. Seeing the brow would make you think elk but I'm saying it's a fallow deer on steroids.

After reading a few posts that it's a Fallow deer from this thread and in the Whitetail section/thread I am pretty sure it's that. Here's a link I found Googlin' -->

http://www.shuttermoments.ca/moments/moments04.htm

Looks pretty close in similarity to me.

Thanks to all for helping!!

Oh and also searched average weight of Fallow Deer and came up with this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallow_Deer

which it mentions larger bucks weighing in at 330 lbs. :jaw:
