Other than the obvious Bow, Boots and proper Clothing What are the most important tools that you take with you on a back coutry elk hunt. I am from Kansas and haven't spent time in the mountains and don't want to be unprepared.

GPS has become essential. Rope to hang meat, game bags in warm weather and a good cleaning knife and knife sharpener are a few things that I can think of. Some will recommend bear spray if your hunting in areas that have bears.

I also would carry some binos, small folding saw and 3 road flares just incase u need to start a fire with wet material

A means to get the beast out. Line up horses, good pack frame, etc... Have a processor lined up in advance so you can get prepped for the ride home. You don't want to loose any of that most excellent meat!

Single most important thing is a solid pack board, with meat bags ( used bed sheets are the best), saw, and parachute cord/rope. You have to get the elk out, and dragging is not an option!

A good headlamp is something to bring on almost any hunt. Something to filter Water (pump, tablets, etc..) Zip ties are useful for lots of things.

I would add, a roll of flagging. It always come in handy for something. A good first aid kit with lots of tylenol, and a space blanket. Good luck with your hunt.
