I completely agree with Pro-Line.

I started with and still love my Win. 9422. I will start my children with this gun after they have enough experience on a BB gun.

It is best to use a .22, they are a lot more fun and take good accuracy, I do tons of squirrel hunting in which i use a 20ga but sometimes youll get to many pellets in it and youll be spittin them out while your eatin the squirrel. Use a shotgun at first then move to a .22 because youll find that .22s are a heck of a lot more fun.

I used to spend most of my time chasing the tree rats and the 22 was definatly of choice! The 12 gauge brought them down like a ton of bricks but you would be picken out pellets for ever not to mention the damage you did! The 22 my old remington nylon stock did a number on them and proved very effective! I am glad the ole man put me onto tree rats as they were how I grew up hunting be it with him or alone as in most cases! the 12 gauge really tore them up..atleast the few I shot, numbers 6's full choke. Learned real quick to pass on those pesky critters while grouse hunting only to come back with my side kick 22 for some fine action!

I hunt in National Forests mostly and this topic begged me to respond. I was once forced to hide behind a tree on a ridge with bullets whizzing by me while some hunters down below me were popping off their .22s up into the trees. I couldn't see them and they couldn't see me, but some frantic yelling put a stop to it. Scarred the crap out of me!
I always use a shotgun (20ga) for exactly that reason. I think if you are absolutly sure you're being safe use a .22. But if you are going to be shooting up into trees think twice!
