I have a Winchester 70 in 338 win mag. I plan on using this rifle for all around use out west (moose, elk, brown bear, etc.) That being said, which magnification range on a scope would be most beneficial, 1-6 or 2-12? (on a Leupold VX-6) The reason I'm considering the 1x power scope is because of brown bears, but I like the idea of a higher magnification for elk, moose, etc. Which would you get?

The differance between 1X & 2X is not going to hurt you.

............But it is always nice to know you have more power at the top end if you need it !

The 2-12x would be great for a .338. Don't worry too much about the lowest power, as 2X with the FOV of this scope will make it very usable up close.

I have a 3-12x on my 338, before there was the 2-12x, this has to be one of the best all around magnifications if you ask me.
