OKAY, HOW WOULD YOU HANDLE THIS?. FATHER IN-LAW WON A GUN, AND BEING NICE THE WAY HE IS. HE GAVE IT TO ME FOR A GIFT, DON'T GET ME WRONG OR ANYTHING. I APPRECIATE THE GIFT AND ALL BUT IT IS A 300 WIN. MAG. MODEL SAVAGE
THE DILEMMA IS THIS, I HAVE HEARD NOTHING BUT BAD REVIEWS ON THIS GUN. IF YOU SHOT THE GUN A LITTLE TO MUCH, THEY SAY THE SHOT WILL START WALKING ON YOU. YOU HAVE TO ON A CONTINOUS BASIS TIGHTEN EVERY THING DOWN ON THE GUN. HOW DO I GO ABOUT LETTING HIM KNOW I WOULD LIKE TO TRADE THE GUN UP TO A MODEL 700- 300 WIN. MAG?

Man what a tough position, I find telling the truth but stretching it a bit may help. Basically I'd let him know that the gun wanders and that you really...really like the Remington and want to move up. He'll understand.

I wouldnt even complain about such a nice gesture, if you want the other model go buy it yourself. If it were me giveing you a gift like that and heard you say you wanted to trade it in for something else..I might think you were a tad bit ungrateful...but thats just me.

if i was you i would keep the gun as a back-up incase something happended to ur other rifle.

Just curious how you are going to return/exchange the rifle for another, as most places do not allow this. However, if it is possible, I would just exchange it and not even say anything to him.

I would bite the bullet and keep the gun. I think if you traded it in it would hurt his feeling's. I have alway's heard that savage
was the best shooting gun out of the box.

Take a gamble. If the guy wants to see or shoot the gun later, then explain to him later why you exchanged it. Not sure about the F.I.L., but I personally am one of those guys where I would much rather someone be happy with what they receive then not like it. If that means exchanging a gift for something better, then go for it. I guess you could just consider me an ungreatful SOB, but I am willing to bet there are more like me out there.
