308 Elk Ammo

So, I've got a really good chance at drawing a elk tag in WY for this year. I will be using my Savage .308, but what I need to know is the type of bullet for a elk.
?????
200gr. Nosler Accubond ????

whatever shoots the best in your rifle is what you need to use!!!! any 150 or 165 grain bullet that groups well will be more than sufficient for elk!!!! YOU DON"T NEED a premium bullet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would use a Barnes TSX, Nosler Partition, Swift A-Frame, or a TBBC. Good luck.

make up your mind!!!!!handloader

Really a box of Remington pointed soft points will work just fine!!! good hunting!!!!!!

Yep what finnbear said. I'm sure there will be more to come later.

Why not go with a premium bullet ? You got a shot at getting a non-resident tag,so your paying good money for the license, then the expensive of traveling, are you paying for a guide or DIY hunt?

My point is why skimp a couple of bucks on a box of bullets? Find a bullet in the 165-180g wieght that shoots good out of your rifle and then make your choice.

Federal Premium offer some good choices in 308 : Accubond,Partitions & Barnes to name a few.

Sure corelocts will work but if it's my hunt i'll take the added insurance of a premium bullet!

Alex here's some food for thought: And no it's not me.

295 yards, .308 Win, with 180 grain Federal Premium Trophy Bonded Tip. Have two more bulls taken in the last two years with the same set up. Another at 240 yards and one at 310 yards.

X2 with jerryd. More than likely any run of the mill bullet will work just fine as finnbear recommends, but what if you get the less than perfect shot angle on the last day of the hunt? Cheaping out on a few dollars in that senerio will seem silly after how much money you invested in your hunt and non resident lic fee's. Just my opinion, I like to have as much in my favor when I go into the woods.

Finbear:

Different rifles like different bullets they can be very picky. Good luck.
