Maine Moose Size?

I' m going to Maine in Oct, and was wondering what is considered a " good" size bull there? I know they run smaller than Alaskan/Yukon moose, but what should I set my sights on? 50" spread? I don' t need to set a record, but would just like some insight as to what to expect and what I' m likely to achieve. Thanks!!!

There are a lot of 50 inch bulls in Maine so I think that could be a reasonable goal. They are not hiding behind every tree but you certainly should be able to get something like that if you try. They don' t hang around the roads much anymore but they are there. As an example, I know of 5 different bulls within a 2 mile radius of my house that would exceed the 50 inch mark.

In 2001, my goal was a 1000 pound bull with at least a 50 spread. Shot a 51 incher that dressed at 920. Close anyway.

Yes I' d say it' s and achievable goal, but you will have to work for it. I have seen many sizable bulls this season in the Allagash region. The moose population is pretty high right now, so your chances should be fairly good. Wish I could draw a tag!!
