IL Deer hunter attacked by cougar in pike county!

Saw it on the ch 5 news earlier today.

14yo boy, deer hunter, fends off attack from mtn.lion! in pike county, IL!

http://www.thetelegraph.com/news/mou...ld-attack.html

quite believable that a 14yo deer hunter knows what a cougar looks like, vs. a bobcat, vs. a coyote etc...

pretty crazy!

Makes you wonder why the Cat was provoked into attacking this kid, and of course He will be criticized that it was Big Foot not a Cougar..

As far as I know, cougars are known to attack human beings as a target of opportunity, to eat them. They are known to attach adult males, why not a 14 year old boy. Does that not seem like adequate explanation? Do you know something about cougar behavior that I don't know? Honest question. I'm not a cougar expert.

No expert here, I'm sure they could attack anything they want, just seems odd to me that a bow hunter has to fight off a Cougar with a Jack Knife is all..Just thought there might be more to the story..at 14 I might try to shoot at the Cat with my bow,( a kid thing I guess) a wounded animal would be more apt to attack for no provoked reason..JMO

There's some pretty good reasons to be skeptical. Here's a video of an interview with the alleged victim:

I think a cougar would have done a lot more damage.

I believe him, but it was most likley an escaped or a released pet.

Maybe so, crossed my mind, an escaped pet trying to play with him rather than attacking him. Would scare the heck out of you regardless. The damage to the bill of the hat, though? If that was a lions paw, his face should have been shredded. And the comment that it's breath smelled like dead rabbits -- really? Just a little odd.

The kid admitted he made it up:
