Back again with some questions that I can't find the answers to:

I've been using the Colorado DOW site allot here the last two weeks looking at potential GMU's for 2012 but I am having an issue.

NDIS MapIt Link - Then click on the "The new hunter web mapping app is here!" to get to the better app.

In the App Under the legend it has these listings:
Purple = State Wildlife Area
Green = Fishing Access
Peach = Watchable wildlife Area
Light Blue = State Trust Land (Seasonal Hunting)
Dark Blue = Hunting Access (Non-STL)
Orange = State Habitat Area

Which of these area's am I allowed to hunt on? Is it only the "Dark Blue" area? OR can I hunt on Purple, Light Blue and Orange?

Zoom into GMU 12 for example: It has some Green, Purple and light Blue and even some Yellow which I have no idea what that means? What colors can a nonresident hunt on?

Everything looks like a road for my Jeep.

I was sort of answering you. More areas are available if you have a vehicle that can get there.

We intend to rent a jeep or some atv's, heck even horses if there is someone that rents in the area we plan to hunt. Getting in isn't the issue. Getting in LEGALLY is the issue. what colors on the map are LEGAL areas to hunt in

For information on hunting the State Trust Lands, try this link: http://www.flipseekpubs.com/publication/?i=76154

From looking around the DOW website, you should plan on being able to hunt the green areas (forest service land), yellow areas (BLM land), purple areas (State Wildlife Areas), and blue areas (state trust lands). I wouldn't plan on hunting orange areas but somebody familiar with Colorado hunting regs may have some better ideas.

Have you seen this page: http://wildlife.state.co.us/Hunting/...unting101.aspx

Without trying to highjack your thread, I too am a first time Colorado elk hunter. I was just recently invited by a friend to join him and some other friends of his on a third season hunt in the Carbondale area. Anyone have any tips for a hunt in that area?

No tips, but I have a friend who was born and brought there. He gets an elk every year. It's a good area to hunt.
