Peak elk bugling
Peak elk bugling is when most of the cows get bred. It could be in early September, during the first breeding period, when 3 year or older cows get bred, or later during the second breeding period, when the 2 year old and younger cows get bred. But, it is when bulls bugle most often, and are easiest to locate, and sometimes easy to hunt.
To find out when Peak Elk Buglingocursm where you hunt, Google "Peak Elk Bugling Dates". God bless, T.R. Michels |
Or, you can just remember it's after the first full moon in September. Jeeesh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've never read any scientific research that suggests the full moon has anything to do with elk breeding behavior. And I can tell you that after 4 years of intensive research on herds of up to 700 head, that the moon has absolutely no effect on when peak breeding or bugling of elk occurs. It is utter nonsense... I've got the notes, research paper, data and graphs to prove it. It occurws during different times frame s in different states, according to state elk biologists and hunters like Dwight Schuh and Larry Jones (both good friends of mine). |
