Spring Bear Hunt Idaho
 

Hello,
Just wondering if anybody has any info on spring bear hunting in Idaho? Are the bears out yet, where to hunt, etc....? Thanks so much.

I live in Clearwater County, Orofino Id. Unit10A. Our season for hunting bear with hounds starts tomorrow, I have for th last two weeks been roading my hounds on the strike rack. I have been getting a lot of strikes on bear, about twenty or so a day. The bears are deffinitely out despite us having a really long winter. They are out on the lower grassy areas, if you get up in elevation, arround the snow, the dogs havnt been striking on any, so as long as you stay down below the snow line and find some good grass areas, you should find some bears. Here is a big ole boy we put in the tree yesterday morning. We have treed 12 so far this year but this is the biggest so far.

So, the dogs do all the hunting? You just shoot the helpless bear out of the tree?

How is this hunting?

Sorry, but I can't stop myself from speaking up when I see this.

You follow a pack of hounds up and down the mountains for 10-15 miles and see just how easy it is. It is probably some of the hardest hunting there is, smart a$$!!! Its a hell of lot more of a challange than it is to throw out a bait and sit on it, which all kind of people do when hunting deer, bear, and elk. By the way the bear isnt helpless, I have seen many hounds killed by those helpless bears.

It's helpless to you shooting out of the tree.


Chasing elk is just as hard.

Chasing elk is not near as hard!!! I do hunt them all the time also, there is no compareison. The bears dont always tree, we have caught several angry bears on the ground. Most bears we tree we do not shoot, we tree them and take pictures and leave it. Last year I treed almost 50 bear and I never shot any of them. Its called catch and release. I get the thrill out of watching my hounds run not the thrill of the kill.

If you dont like hound hunting, I could care less! It is leagle and more ethical than alot of other forms of hunting that others enjoy. When some of my hounds cost as much as $10,000 a piece, and each dog is wearing over $600 of electronics, yeah I take my hound hunting serious, as does alot of other houndsmen. Before you insult someone maybe you should educate your self.
