New Mexico 22% to 10% max. cap!
 

New Mexico just passed SB 161

previously the outfitter draw received 12% of tags, and non-resident unguided received 10%, for a grand total of 22% of the tags going to non-residents,

now...

8% of tags will goto guided non-residents, and only 2% will be available to non-residents unguided!

so from 12% to 8% (guided nonresidents)

and 10% to 2%!!!

Update! According to Eastmans' the final cut is going to be 10% non-res guided, 6% non-res unguided!

Did they pass it or did it just make it out of committee? I thought there was still a few weeks before they voted on it.

yup it passed this week! so this year we're affected!

It still has to got to finance commitee then state senate, Lets pray someone smart puts a stop to this.

For sure it wouldn't be effective until 2012. I already have my applications in for 2011 in New Mexico.

I think there is still a decent chance that it won't even make it to a vote on the senate floor. This is a short session (60 days) and there are a LOT of other bills that are more important that this one that they should be voting on. Hopefully it will stay hung up in the finance committee for the rest of the session.

If it goes it will reduced the amount of guided hunts on public land.

I received an email from someone in gov't in NM comparing the new system to Oregon! where only 5% of tags go to non-residents.

Oregon!?!? certainly not a state I'd want to be referring to about the quality of draws/hunts.

Why are non-residents even limited at all in the first place? Can't we all go into the same pool, and if a non-res draws you charge them the non-res fee, and vice-versa? Also in most cases residents should out number non-residents, ie if only 10% of total tags applied for are non-residents, the max non-res that could draw would be 10%.

I just need to find a way to become a resident of every state I apply for.

I'll sit this year out & look at the draw data & decided about 2012. But it looks like I drop out of NM & AZ.
