RE: ATV' s I would like to hear opinions

EKM-No offense here but you just keep makin slams. I never take the atv off the forest roads and at 52 I doubt I can outclimb you but just sayin I can still keep up. The stuff about havin guns and more guys never stopped me yet and thats why I got 9 crowns. Go work with some group to pass the anti atv laws for Colorado. I don' t think that much will work to keep people from abusing things better than embarrassing them a bit so they at least know what their doing isn' t OK. Have had some real irate people yellin at me but not been shot yet. Was put in the hospital for 3 days though. I got no issue in this other than thinkin that more laws to exclude stuff will lead to a world that I wont like much.

This!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 I have to repy to![X(]

First NOMERCY

.........I' ve got an uncle that owns just under 3000head of them himself, and gets federal grants to do it (not much, but every penny helps in farming), he' s one of the smaller buffalo ranchers around here, and these aren' t no ' beeffalo' , pure bred American made bison.
I believe BeaverJack was refering to WILD BUFFALO.........NOT! Ranch stock!!Just as most of us(I hope) refer to Elk as wild Elk not ranch Elk

As for the ATV.....I also agree with " Jack"

Seems everbody thet ain' t into somebody else' s cup of tea is a liberal tree-hugger. Was Teddy Roosevelt a liberal tree-hugger? He set up much of our public lands. How about Rockerfeller, who gave us much of our national park land around here.
I am NOT a liberal!!!!!

Because just as much as we are all hunters. We should be just as much if not more of a conservationist!!!!!!!That means to protect the HABITAT of the animals that we pursue.ATVs in my opinion should not be allowed in wilderness areas or within a certain radius of a wilderness area. Because you CAN' T regulate responsibility (poaching still occurs does' nt it)!!!![:@] There are areas in my state where ATVs are allowed. That may be OK but I think they should be limited to game retrieval only or for the phyisiclly challanged.I don' t think areas like these should be expanded but scrutinized more closely.I choose not to hunt in these areas....I' ll work for mine!!Thank you!

P.S
My hunting partner is 57 about 250lbs and spends his summers getting in shape for hunting.Have' nt lost him yet! Allthough I' m sure there' ll come a day[:' (].He also despises ATVs

This one' s a real bee hive,
I say horray to EKM,BJ,Noway&glob3006
This day and age every one wan' ts to to be top man on the mountain and they do about any thing they can to get there.
We can' t monitor everyone,we can' t make this a communistic society.
I can see both side of this problem, users and no-users.We all have to deal with everyone and how they hunt. But ATV' s are not hunting,it just makes you a glorified road-hunter.

As for rather_be, I' ve been to Utah,so don' t start!!

As for Wolves they are nothing but glorified Yoet' s,as for Grizzly and Buffalo I will be wating for my chance at a tag.BBJ

I use mine all the time during hunting season and I' m in great physical shape, too. I only get off mine when I need to take a piss or I reach my hunting camp or spot, and then it' s on foot from there.:D I' m not stupid to pack a moose a second time by myself.

rather_be_huntin - ATV' s are a lazy mans way of getting to and from his deer stand and I HATE them anytime they go off maintained public roads. An old man or handicapped individual I can see using one, everyone else do like hunters have done for the past 75 years - drive on maintained roads to a certain point and WALK. Yeah, I know, that means physical excercise and all, but suck it up and do it anyway. You might actually come away feeling better for it.

Do you like those cookies ?

After rereading this it' s obvious that Alaska aint the same as upstate NY. In AZ there is really no area for hunting that doesnt have logging roads and cattle and you can use a horse if you want to get to the top of the hills but I can also climb up in an hour from the closest truck road. I just ride on the same roads that you might be drivin your truck down to get to where I start hiking. I know from hunting Montana that there are parts that are truly wilderness and that is a good thing. We all get into answers based on our personal experience and then the fat guy cookie crap starts. Bet that most of us that really hunt elk do basically the same kind of hunting. Those that drive the truck down the road and shoot from the cab or bed probly arent using this forum. Good hunting.

I can see where they could be considered neccessary , like elderly or disabled and mountains . If they' re ridden with respect for others I don' t have any problem with them . But I' ve had several hunts spoiled by irresponsible riders too . If it' s hunting season you should consider that before doing any recreational riding . I stay out of the woods during turkey season since I don' t hunt them so that I don' t blow someone else' s set up with careless footsteps . I won' t hunt squirrels much during other seasons for the same reason . It all comes down to personal responsibility .

RE: ATV' s I would like to hear opinions

I just recently purchased my new atv. It is a 350cc Honda Rancher. Nothing too crazy. It gets me into the deep woods where I need to be quickly so I don' t have to spend several hours getting to my stand. I keep from sweating and can hunt areas where I previously had trouble reaching.
I use it for helping me get bear and deer out. I do not think this quad would be adequate for Elk, Moose, or any other larger big game.

I think it is very important as a sportsman to distinguish yourself from the rest of the guys out there ripping and racing around. You need to respect the land you are on. Take your time on trails and try not to chew up the logging roads, etc. ATVs can reak havoc on powerlines and other types of trails if the rider abuses the terrain.
We respect the game we hunt and we need to respect the land it lives on. Use them for what they are for.

RE: ATV' s I would like to hear opinions

I have an extreme dislike for ATVs but many people probably use them responsibly. In the areas I have hunted, there is no way an ATV is going to get in there, so I haven' t had personal problems with them. Although, one of the guys I hunt with said he ran into an " atv' er" in the middle of nowhere who had run out of gas, which was humorous...

I see 10 dead elk on pack animals for every on I see on a motorized easy chair. If I was a elk, I don' t reckin' I' d hang out long in the speedways that cover the non-wilderness areas. Get yerself a ATV to pack out a critter you' ll never shoot. Makes sense to me.
