I used my .270 all the time in grizzly country with a handgun for back up. I would like a handgun for those short ranges in the .44 mag to .460 S&W magnum. I feel safe with that.

If a bear's charging you good luck trying to stop it with any gun. You can put a round clean through it's heart and it'll keep coming long enough to cause you plenty of damage. Your best hope is a deterrent.

But don't let that stop you from buying another gun! :P

Absolutely!

Anything can jam if neglected but a manually operated pump shotgun is far less likely to have a malfunction than an auto rifle.

Autos can very easily malfunction in freezing, wet, weather.

I don't know about you but I don't neglect my firearms. Semi-auto, pump, bolt or whatever. They are all in immaculate condition because some day one of them may save my life and since I don't know which one it is right yet, I take extremely good care of them all.
