Favorite cow call??

I drew my elk muzzleloader tag and need to get a new cow call...I had an old one that I misplaced with rubber bands and it sounded great (can' t remember name) and would like to get one like it, or would welcome feedback on others.

Thoughts??

Look on the Primos website. They have several different outside the mouth reed calls that are really easy to use. They also sell a herd pak that has several calls that produce cow / calf sounds. The cow talk call that you are referring to that use the bands work excellent, but for me biting down on the cards irritates my teeth. I carry the cow talk call and two reed calls on a lanyard around my neck. With very little effort, I can be sounding like 5-6 different elk.

Them cow talks make a fine backup. I prefer the itty bitty Screery call. When the bull gits close, you can have yer hands free an' still talk to ' im. Its a fine sound too. Cain' t ' member what they call it, but I' ve lost several of ' em. Like any reed call, they do tend to freeze up, so keep ' em in yer coat or balled up in yer hand when not in use. Nuthin' more frustratin' than to have a big bull at the edge of the timber and to git ' im that final couple of steps you try a mournful cow call, only to have yer froze call make some kinda duck noise or whistle.

I use Primo calls. They have a sqeeze call called the Hootchie Mama that is easy to use and sounds great. The three calls I carry on every elk hunt are: Hootchie Mama, Hyper Lip Single and Imperial Plate. Good Luck!

I agree with bugel' s selection. Asking for one cow call is like asking for one golf club. You need more than one for different situations. My calls are:

Hoochie mama - sqeeze call. Can sound like a herd with another call in your mouth

Two diaphram calls - These allow you to be at full draw or shooting position and give a cow call to stop a bull.

Reed call - Reed calls make great estrus sounds and are just a real good cow sound. Probably my favorite if I had to pick only one and they' re real loud.

I think you need all these different types in your arsenal. If you don' t you' ll get in a situation and wish you had em.

Thanks all. Is the Cow talk call available to the general public, or is this individual one who does just that, individual orders? I could get many variations out of this one call and would like to get my hands on another one...as well as a few of the others mentioned that I already planned on. Any help on finding a cow talk call?
