One outfitter I went with hunted both morning and evening, with equal succsess. For some reason though, most (bait) outfitters hunt only evenings. I think half of it is if they are running alot of luck just going nights, they cut down on an already very busy day (and doubled transport costs) by cutting out the a.m. I wonder if it makes a diff if you are with an outfitter that you drive yourself to the stand (like the one I hunted both a.m. and p.m.) or if they drive you (just p.m.) You can rack up alot of drive time and money going to and from stands.

The first time I went to Canada, I went to a friends camp. He pretty much turned us loose to do as we pleased. In return, we ran all his baits that week and fixed some mechanical issues he had.
We were totally green to bear hunting. We went at it like deer hunting. One guy stayed on stand all day for the first 3 days. He saw like 25 different bears...some of which were obviously repeats. He killed a 300 pound boar the 4th day at 11am. I killed one at 8:30 in the morning. The other 2 guys killed right at dark. The locals up there were astounded that we saw bears in the morning. We didn't know any better...and now he encourages his hunters to hunt am and pm. |
we hunted all day long, but it was spot and stalk, saw bears all day long too!
