Vermont moose draw this Friday

We can only hope. If I don't draw it is on to bear hunting.

moosemike 07-08-2010 08:55 AM

Good luck to all. I held a tag for VT last year so I'm serving my 3 year suspension right now.

heinz57 07-08-2010 03:37 PM

you have a Vermont moose draw is that because there are not enough moose in vermont ????? vermont is next to quebec canada and you should have a good population of moose ..we buy our permit for moose every year 2 hunters for 1 moose ...??????????????

salukipv1 07-08-2010 06:14 PM

enlighten me...?

aren't the odds horrible for Moose in the Northeast?

Course I apply out west for moose and those odds aren't great either, but do plan to one day draw the tag...

I've drawn twice in VT and once in NH since 2003. My wife has drawn once in VT and my BIL has drawn once in NH in that time frame also.

VT may border Quebec but there isn't that much of a moose population in southern Quebec. The population is much better in the Gaspesie but that borders Maine. It wasn't all that long ago VT didn't even have moose. the hunting season was reopened in 1992 and VT now claims to have 5,000 moose and gives out 1,200 tags.

Do you know what time they draw today?

heinz57 07-09-2010 06:55 AM

ok that was a good responds to my question ...i hunt up north and we still have a good moose population ..we have a lot of clear-cuts and that is what realy helps to feed the moose ..the clear-cuts are not good at the start but 3 years later they draw in the moose ...

moosemike 07-09-2010 07:42 AM

I think I'm going to start booking yearly moose hunts in Quebec starting next year. I just have to pick an outfitter.

car 07-09-2010 10:52 AM

Well it's out and so am I. Didn't draw :(

The odds are better in Vermont and NH than in any western state that I know of.. They are even better in New Brunswick.. Perhaps 1 in 25 or so for nonresidents..

I am sorry you never got a tag this year. I was lucky and drew a tag here in Maine last year. It took us 30 minutes to get one. I waiting for almost 30 years it seams. Now I have to wait 2 years before i can apply again. But I am on other tags but they never drew either. Better luck next year. Maine has a pretty good success rate also but it surely depends on the zone you are hunting in.

vtbuckrulrss 07-10-2010 05:39 AM

the odds arent too bad here for moose. my dad drew last year, i got to go as his second, and i shot a 51" bull. in 2004 i got drawn and filled my cow tag. but, if you go to tundratours.com, they offer moose hunts in quebec for 1800? i think it is. i hope to send my dad there next year with tax money. he and i have gone twice, but i have done all the shooting. its his turn.

mustad 07-13-2010 09:57 AM

I missed as well. The Moose population in southern quebec is very good north of VT's northeast kingdom moving east... matching to Quebec's zone 4 east. But north of St. Albans is all farmland. Good waterfowl; deer and upland hunting, but not many Moose.

MikeVT 07-14-2010 06:22 AM

Finally drew mine. My zone has large tracts of forest, but there are plenty of moose if you get out and look for them.

car 07-14-2010 07:39 AM

Congrats to you. Shoot a big one!

moosemike 07-14-2010 11:36 AM

What zone?

ranchand99 07-14-2010 05:57 PM

Sorry to hear that Car..Heinz57 are you a guide?

Zone L. It's the only zone I've put in for. We have a camp in ther area and I have seen many moose in the past. It sets up nicely, with the reporting station right down the road in Londonderry.

moosemike 07-16-2010 06:56 AM

Nice! Good luck.

Champlain Islander 07-17-2010 05:34 AM

I never put in for the draw because the timing of the seasons are the same as my elk hunts to colorado. Good luck to everyone that drew. Lots of moose especially up in the kingdom.
