I was checkin my trapline-antler hunting when I stumbled upon this white moose...Attachment 9399 Attachment 9400 I took these pics with my cell phone so sorry about the quality. Click on the pic to see it up close.

What do you think? Is it albino?

skullman11 05-01-2010 04:18 PM

I've seen one in the fall that was a greyish/white on the back, had a calf of normal colour. In the spring it can be from ticks, bald spots, sometimes some huge bald spots result from them rubbing off ticks. Results in a lot of spring die offs as they have no coat left to protect them from the elements. Had one here in northern Alberta about 10-12 yrs ago. It kicked the krap out of the moose in a pretty large area up there.

I tried to edit the pic and although I can not say for sure it doesn't look like a moose to me.. Just by looking at it's nose makes me think it is something other than a moose.. I still can't say for sure though. Here is the edited pic anyways..

What do you think it is? :confused2: I promise you it is a moose. Their was another regualer moose behind it.

rather_be_huntin 05-02-2010 03:12 PM

I think it's a Hyena.

JK....likes like a piebald moose. I've seen piebald deer and moose in the past. If it was albino it would be absent of all color and the nose and eyes would be pink.

Your right it does look like a hyena!
But if Gen saw a reg. moose behind it than it probably was a moose.

houndsman12 05-04-2010 07:18 PM

it is hard to tell from those pictures, but i think it is a albino moose, I have seen two or three different albino moose in Utah. But it is difficulty to tell from those pictures.

Explain to me this new word introuduced to my vocabulary "piebald"? What is that? Molting?

121553 05-09-2010 04:33 PM

I don't think its an albino, but a calf molten after its first winter. I have seen a couple calves up here the same way and they both were with the cow. Their are albino moose but I've never seen one other than pictures, but they do exist.

skullman11 05-10-2010 09:59 PM

NathanHaHa 05-13-2010 06:43 PM

That's amazing! I've never heard of an albino moose before. I have seen albino deer on my property though.

skullman11 05-13-2010 06:46 PM

Their not Albinos just White

Wheatley 05-20-2010 07:02 AM

I don't think the original is white or a piebald either. I have seen them in the spring with very light coats and with the sun reflecting it just looks light to me. It's just to small of a picture to be sure though.

Pro-Line 05-22-2010 09:08 AM

We used to go to Horwood Lake close to Timmins. Went there 7 or 8 times fishing and 3 times bear hunting. We saw white moose 2 or 3 different times.

skullman11 05-22-2010 08:36 PM

Pro-line that is were i took those pictures, which outfitter did you use up here?

Denis

Pro-Line 05-23-2010 06:01 AM

Denis,

When we originally went we were with Jack Wade at Big Bear Camp. Then Bob and Sandy bought it. (Their last name escapes me)

Then we went to Horwood Lake Lodge (formerly Midemiers) when Barry and Cindy Edwards owned it. Then Dale and Denis owned it the last time I went which was a few years back. Now somebody else owns it.

Probably more info than you wanted...LOL

We have them up here, not too common but there are around... Could be an albino with ticks, the past few winters have been mild and played hob on the moose! Here are a couple pics of a white cow with a couple regular calves...
