shot placement on black bear
i have heard conflicting stories about where to shot a bear with a bow, one said right behind the shoulder, and another said dead center of the body. can anybody help me out with this question.

RE: shot placement on black bear
It probably depends on the angle. If it is broadside, I might be inclined to shoot it just behind the shoulder. One trick I use on deer, and moose is to imagine a line between the points of the shoulders. Aim for the center of that line, no matter what the angle(except a rump shot, which on a bear with a bow, I would avoid) and you will usually hit vitals.

Look at a Mckenzie target and go for a center 10. My bear went 10 yards!

If it is broadside, wait for the front leg to be stepping forward so that the shoulder and leg bones don't get in the way. Put your arrow just behind the shoulder. A shot to the dead center of a bear will most likely miss the vitals because they are located more towards the front half of the bear.

thats what i was thinking, shoot it just like you would a deer, depending on the angle.

RE: shot placement on black bear
If it is a quartering away shot, aim at the far front leg.
I've also heard people preach the rear entry shot on a bear, but too much room for error on that shot IMO. |
