please recommend a guide colorado

Going to Colorado unit 49 the last two weeks of September for Elk and Mule deer. Would like a guide familiar with that area. 5 of use will be hunting 10,000 acres of private property. Know anyone?

thought you were a booking agent??

You would be suprised what you may find out, if you just have a reason to ask. Yes I am a booking agent, but it would be nice to have someone familiar with that specific unit 49 area. You know. Another thing, just because I am in the business does not mean I know everyone, and asking does not mean you don' t have something lined up. Just another tool in making a new connection for future excursions. I' ll be running a video camera most of the hunt filming 4 different hunters. My hands will be full doing that. So what part of Colorado are you from bigbearhuntertodd? Berthoud, where is that? Your needing hunters? Send me a personal email [email protected] and lets talk.

I' m kind of confused about this. If it private land, how is someone going to be familiar with it if they don' t hunt the land already? If that' s the case, ask the landowner

As a guide/outfitter/hunting consultant since 1989 I have to admit I' m a little confused too. Your a consultant, and your hunting private land, but you are looking for a guide.

The best thing to do is ask the landowner where the game is, or ask him who has hunted it in the past (as a hunter or as a guide/outfitter) and contact them.
If you can' t gain any information that way contact the CO Outfitters/Guides Association, the CO guide licenesing board, or the local Chamber of Commerce for guides in the area.

Berthoud is north of Denver, south of Loveland.

Bigbear,

I used to train horses and give riding lessons at Sylvan Dale Ranch (beside the " Dam Store" and syphon pipe west of Loveland). Susan Jessup is a goodfriend. I also worked for Larry and Terry Jessup. Is the " Dam Store" still there?

TR, the " Dam Store" is still there. I am from Loveland, and got married at Sylvan Dale in 2001. I travel up the canyon a lot for fishing and shooting (pictures and weapons).

ATrueHoyt,

Congratulations. It' s a beautiful setting. Exactly where was the wedding, down by the picnic ground at the river?

How are Susan and the kids? If you see them say " hi" from T.R. Michels from Minnesota. Do they have a website?

I was last there when the canyon flooded and took out the first bridge at Sylvan Dale, and wrecked the kitchen. Can' t remember what year. I

I also dated a banker' s daughter there; Ann Gregg. This would have been back in the 70' s.

Is Terry Jessup still raising/training Appaloosas/Quarer Horses?

You are getting WAY to excited about this hunt. Sit back & think about it for a minute. You can find the elk on a 10,000 acre private ranch the first day by yourself. I am sure there will be a hired hand that will take you to the elk?
Heck you are lucky most non-residents at this time do not even know for sure there exact hunting location. You have yours pegged down to 10,000-acres. You can also be sure of one thing, of the 10,000-acres I bet only 25% to 50% at max is what you call prime elk habitat. That narrows your search down before you even start.

Good Luck, Relax & have a Great Hunt.

It was at the Heart J pond, outside the big lodge. Probably built after you were there, I would say in the last 7 years or so. I don' t know anybody out there, my wife did all the work. The Big Thompson canyon flood was July 31, 1976 (I know because it is my birthday (not year).
Yes they have a website: www.sylvandale.com

There were at least two ponds when I worked there. One not far from the main dining room but down-river, another farther down-river behind the recreation room off the pool.

1976 huh, long time ago. I found the website and sent Susan an e-mail.

You know, I think Eddie Lee Rider (outdoor writer) used to live in Loveland. And I know the guys who started the Double Bull archery blinds lived in Ft. Collins.

Hows things looking for elk hunting, is it dry?
