WY unit 37 elk
I am trying to get some ideas for a DIY elk hunt in WY unit 37. Looking at the WY game and Fish site, it appears that the reduced price cow tags should be fairly easy to come by and the success rate is OK. My question pertains more to access to public lands, etc. I would like to find an area that has limited access to four wheelers and such. Normally I prefer to camp at the truck and walk in from there and I prefer not to have people on four wheelers buzzing around in an area that I may have spent a fair amount of time getting to on foot. So, the questions: Does anybody have experience on the forest service ground in 37? Were there many four wheelers, etc. tooling around that area? Any other suggestions about the cows in unit 37?
I have done several DIY hunts in CO in the Routte National Forest. We have had some success but just looking for something a little closer to home. Thanks for putting up with my rambling on this my first post. |
why no do a 38 tag--tons of elk and HUUUUGE area to hunt:confused0024: it takes in the hole top and north east big horns

T/A,
Thanks for the reply. I was looking at the reduced price cow tag and that is not available in 38. I'm perfectly happy shooting a cow and saving a few bucks on a tag does not hurt my feelings either. But if 38 is a great area to hunt and I am sure (or at least have very good odds) of drawing a cow tag, I am open to the option. Have a merry Christmas. Jason |

I have hunted area-37 for the last three years. I plan to hunt there again next fall. I am a cow hunter myself & like the "cheap & easy" odds of drawing the tag.
I have never seen a four wheeler off of a forest service road in area-37. Four wheelers are limited to use on forest service roads only as far as I know. Good luck hunting, WK |
WK,
Thanks, that sounds like what I am looking for. Time to get some forest service maps and start doing homework. Do you camp on FS ground or stay at a hotel. I like being able to set up camp at the truck myself. Seems I can bring even more stuff I don't need then. Does it seem like there is much pressure during the cow season? |
JasoninSD,
I sent you a visitor message |
WK,
Thanks, I appreciate it very much. |
