BeaverJack, thats pretty good I don' t know what size battery they put in watches pretty darn small though. Remington is trying to push their electric rifle which takes a 9 volt, I am not interested in one though.:D

Robert Scott, D@^N STRAIGHT, if my boots or socks wear out, then my feet are going to give me trouble which pretty much ends my hunt. Like your thought about praticing w/.22 L.R., though you don' t get your recoil tolerance built up.

The reason I started this thread was I read a book by Clay Harvey, The Rifles The Cartridges and The Game. This was printed in the late 1980' s. Anyway In his opinion he feels that you need 4 Rifles to rule North America and a fifth for BIG bears.

.223 Rem
.243 Win
.308 Win
7mm Rem mag

He does not list a 5th rifle for bear but gives a grouping of acceptable cartridges.

I wanted to see what other hunters thought about the number of rifles and what calibers. Thanks to all who responded:)

Mr. Clay Harvey seems to be overlapping quite a bit on his selections.

If I were going to " rule" North America with four guns I would have to have:

.22lr for squirrels, rabbits and other small stuff
.243 for longer range and larger varmints as well as deer
.300 mag of some make for all of the hooved game larger than deer.
.375 for the bears.

This would also take me to Africa if I so desired.

I thought that as well. He puts the recoil limit of the 7mm rem mag for most gunners[X(][:' (]. I don' t agree. Its a pretty good read though.
