What ammo for Elk

I just bought a 7MM T/C Pro Hunter and plan to use it for deer hunting and on a trip I have booked for Elk. Do you have any suggestions on a load size for Elk and a brand you prefer? I am looking for some hunters of elk recommendations rather than the local experts!

Barnes Triple Shock 140 Grain IMO. Havent used a 7mm, but firm follower of the Barnes TSX, and it has performed great for me on elk in my 338.

165 gr federal Premium Nosler partition. Or anything around the 165 gr or up will do just fine.

Which .338 do you have? what weight have you used on elk? what was the result?

Still searching for a bullet for the .340wby, considering 225gr TSX, 250 Nosler Partition, 250 Accubond, though whichever shoots best will probably be the choice.

Wish they would load some Tipped TSX...I saw/read Cor-bon ammo loads some for the .340wby.

Have a 338 Win Mag, have used the 225g TSX Boattail, complete penetration on elk. Handloaded these loads. This shot was 400 yards on the rangefinder.

Also have a 338 Federal which I tried last year for first time. 185g TSX Federal Premium ammo, complete penetration last year also. 515 yards from rangefinder to where he droped, about 5 feet from where I hit him at.

The performance on the TSX is very impressive. As with anything your gonna shoot at an elk shot placement is most important, and second only to a premium bonded type bullet. Havent seen the accubond but partition is a decent performer on elk. Go with what will shoot best in your gun.

I concur with a 160 or bigger bullet. Nosler partition, trophy bonded bear claw, or the TSX bullet will all do fine.

Do a search for Federal premium ammo. They have the 160 gr in the nosler, the TSX, an the trophy bonded bear claw. All three would be great elk ammo

+1 on what txhunter 58 said.

150-165 grn Remington Core-lokt. It is plain and simple and works.

You may want to give this a try.

This is the best 7mm Rem Mag load I have seen for downrange energy. If your gun shoots it accurately it would seem to be a good load.
