New Mexico Elk Hunt Suggestions

Ive never applied for a NM elk tag but plan on it this year. Im trying to decided on an area to apply for. Im looking for the best possible unit that will produce a 330+ bull. I have horses and can pack in so a roadless area might be better. Anybody have any suggestions what units to look at for my 3 choices?

16D, 16A and 16C in the Gila National Forest...or substitute theValle Vidal (which is a once-in-a-lifetime draw) for one ofthe 16 hunts.Odds are a bit better for NR hunters who apply for guided hunts...but something tells me you may not be interested in that.

Applications are due by April 8.

36 and 34 you may consider...

The gila wilderness is an easier draw....and since you already have horses....less crowded too, I think its 16D.
