Depends what you want to spend...I like the Burris Landmark...Zeiss are amazing...Swarovski are generally considered the best

I have a Leica APO Televid 77 that i bought a few years back for glassing some new property. Its a fantastic piece of equipment, and its for sale.

RE: Good Spotting Scope
I honestly think Vortex is the best for the money that I have seen as far as optics go....As clear as my binocs are, there is no way on God's green earth I would fork out $1400 for a pair that says swarovski on the side. Are they brighter and clearer? Maybe, but worth the 4x bigger price tag? In my case, not even close.
I too am in need of a good spotter, and am narrowing down my choices. I will likely go with a straight eye piece spotter from the Nomad series of Vortex. If you are packing into the backcountry very far for bivy style hunts, keep weight in mind. Some spotters weigh up to 5 lbs! |
RE: Good Spotting Scope
I have an older Cabelas 20X60X60 that I have been dragging around since the early 90s. Used mostly for spotting bighorns but served me well for deer and elk. The thing that I like is it is packable unlike some of the big dollar scopes.

ORIGINAL: .243Heartshot I need a new spotting scope for glassing mule deer, on our north ca property. What brand would be good for a reliable spotting scope. if you are using it for backpacking hunts then go lightweight and something like a 10-20x40 would be fine (vortex, alpen, leupold would work fine) if you are using it out of a truck or road or house and won't be mobile then i would go for something larger like a 20-40x60, heavier with good light gathering abilities and any of the above brands would work fine |
