Default Food Plot For Mule Deer

What kind of food plots do mule deer like? I was thinking about planting a couple 1-4 acre food plots on my Northern California hunting land. Like about 5-10 food plots, what would be good like clover, turnips, chicory, what do they like. Also would they frequent these plots, would it be good to put bow stands on the plots.

How well will this work in a dryland application?? I know that some farmers do have dryland alfalfa but they only get one cuting andthey have to cut way early so the plants don't dry out due to lack of water!!! I also would like to plant at around 3000ft ..so I was thinking more along the lines of a wheat type plot!!

i dunno then. we grow alfalfa here and its a high mountain desert. probably 6,000 feet but i think they water all the time. here we can cut 3 crops usually. two years ago we got 4. i dont know how the deer like the wheat but that would grow better in drier conditions. most of the farms that plant wheat are closer to town and dont have many deer coming in that close so i dont really see deer in those fields so i dont know.

It all comes down to what do they have to eat around you and when is it available. If you can plant something that is a good food source for them when other local food sources are scarce, then you will be in for a great ride.
