Idaho archery, September. Bivy hunt, 40 lb pack for one week, slept where it got dark. Was limited on elk hunting time due to a hunting trip to the Badlands. I ended up filling the freezer anyway. With the economy the way it is, horns were secondary on this trip !!!!

We endured 36 straight hours of rain, then snow, then ice. But we made it !!!!

Not this year. I am getting a new shoulder joint soon so maybe next year. I can't put it off any longer as the right shoulder is also starting to give me trouble.[:@] Last year it was the broken foot. It's been a tough couple years. I can't complain to much though the first 60 years went really well.

Best of luck to those of you who are hunting this year though.

Hello there everyone.

1) Eagles Nest Wilderness Area
2) 1st Rifle, Elk only, Either sex tag, Season is five days long.
3) Park the pickup, hike in until I find them and take the first legal animal. I pack a bivy and an old Chouinard Pyramid tarp.
4) Thursday, Oct 9

On a side note, I was up in the ENWA today, lurking around at about 9,500'. The elk must still be way up. Plenty of Deer and Bear sign though. It was snowing lightly when I came through Eisenhower. Maybe that will bring them down some.

Good luck to everyone hunting and be safe!

I hunted early archery in Washington, but was unable to connect on an elkdue to lack of time in the woods (birth of my first child, a baby boy.) I'll be back out at the end of november for late season archery

I archery hunted Utah's Monroe unit from September 1-12. Truck camped, stayed near Manning Meadows Reservoir (the home of Spidey!). Came home without an elk, mainly due to letting some good bulls walk without drawing my bow. Had a great hunt.

EKM,

Your hunt sounds like mine sans the livestock. The other difference is we havequite a bitmore distance to cover than you before setting up camp.

Another difference, two hunters will be shooting a ought-six's, another a .270 and the fourth a.338 Federal. Back-up is a .308 LE Tactical.

Bugs.

Idaho- unit 67
Cow Elk any weapon(rifle) - Oct.22-Nov.30
Trailhead is 3mi. from my house. Depending on which direction the wind is coming from decides where I will enter the canyon I'll be hunting. Snow adds into the equation also.
Depending where I'll be going in from- 3:30-4:00 a.m. each morning.
