Got my New Brunswick Moose - A dandy

Well guys, I posted several times on hear about my NB Canad moose hunt. Shot him 1st light 2nd day of season. Best hunt ever. Guide called him in from about 400 yards in a thick cut. We heard him coming in grunting, raking trees, & just plowing through the alders. Shot him at 25 yards. Hit him 4 times right in the boiler room before he tipped. He only took 2 steps and tipped over off of the skidder trail.
Field dressed 870 lb, Had a 48.5" spread, & had 19 points.

Congrats man. Moose is the best table fair of all wild game, IMO. Lots and lotsof good eatin'. Those moose can really soak up bullet energy like no other.

Congrats man!! That your first? Sounds like it was a thrill hearing him come busting thru the brush. I'm headed to Newfoundland in 2 weeks, hope I can have a positive report to give.

Congrats!! They sure get big when they're on the ground don't they.:D

9 times out of 10 they're dead after the first shot. They just don't know it.[:@]Keep on shooting. That's our camp's motto as well. If they're still standing we keep shooting. Of course you can always ruin a front quarter by popping them in the shoulder, but we like our moose too much to waste meat like that.

Taxis River Outfitters in Boisestown. Great operation. Highly recommend them. Only one other in camp. He took a 50" 23 point that dressed 895lb after me!
Best hunting experience of my life.

1st moose hunt ever. Called him in 300 yards in a cut out to the skidder trail we were set up on. He grunted and broke everything the whole way in. Just an amazing hunt. I couldn't have asked for a better hunt. Felt as if we had a 1000lb turkey coming in.

LOL! I know the feeling...

/raises hand "Hello. I'm a turket addict and yes, I've experienced 'buck fever' while calling in a turkey..."

Congratulations!

I haven't decided if I will ever try a Moose hunt or not. Part of the reason is that most of the places to hunt Moose are so far off I would probably have to fly instead of drive and it sounds like it is a major ordeal to get the meat home.

Were you able to get the meat home and if so, how much did that cost?

Thanks, Nathan

We drove 10.5 hours from Massachusetts to the center of New Brunswick. I shot the moose on Friday AM and had it a the local butcher shop early afternoon. They caped it out immediately and hung the moose in the cooler. I stopped by early the next am and they quickly quartered him up and we put him in the trailer and drove home w/ him on ice. Everything went fine. He is at my local butcher now. The NB butcher charged mde $100 to hang, cape, & quarter the animal.
All in all, it was a perfect situation. The butcher had 92 moose hanging when we left Sat AM
