Thanks Jeff!! I figured I would post these pics here instead of In the Bow Hunting forum. Some of them "know it alls" In the Bow hunting forum think they know everything when It comes to this baiting stuff. Its needed where I hunt, damn near the only way possible to be successful Is to bait. Bear are nothing like deer what so ever. I forgot to PM you also Jeff. I'll get on that!;)

Keep us posted on your success...
Baiting is illegal here in MA... yet everyone complains about the evergrowing bear population. I think baiting is the key to proper management.

It is amazing how many bears are killed in MA "without baiting".

I'll keep ya posted Western MA Hunter. I'm heading out Friday night and I won't be back for 9 days.

If we couldn't bait in Minnesota there would be bear nuisance problems everywhere. There's plenty of bear nuisance problems already. I've been bear hunting for 19 years and been around it for 30 years and If there was another way to do it I'd have done it. Its just the only way possible in northern Minnesota to get a bear unless you were hunting a cornfield or an oats field. If your hunting them corn and oats fields It has to be the right time of year as well when they start to ripen. Any other time they won't be there either. There's hardly any corn fields up there, bad soil for crops up there. Its impossible to spot and stalk a bear when you can't see 15' in front of you in the thick northern woods of Minnesota. If I was bear hunting in the mountains, bait wouldn't be a necessity. A person can't use dogs in Mn either for bear hunting. Can you guys?

Bear baiting and dog hunting is illegal. Bear nuissance problems increase every year. There are +/- 125 bears killed in MA every year... The majority coming from Berkshire County (Western most county).
Lots of bears... Let's put it this way... I have seen 1 bear while deer hunting and1 while turkey hunting... baiting should be legalized.

RE: Bear pics on a bear bait.

I live in nystate. We aren't legally able to bait bear or deer here. Yet the only way 98 -99% of bear and most deer that are killed in the northern states are taken that way. The state parks that many people go camping in are full of bears. Many guys are getting pinched over bait here in the past few years. I will tell you one thing. The only way to eat a bear, is over a rotisserie in a big cooker. A friend of mine has done that a few times for me, and I will tell you they taste great. The only way I will eat one from now on. A good basting mix is a must. Cheese cloth soaked with this mixture, wrapped around the bear to prevent it from drying out. This keeps it moist. You have to wire a wire mesh over the body of the meat to keep it together, and cook until temp is checked with a meat thermometer. Not sure the reading but would imagine it has to be at least 180deg. you have to be pretty lucky to get one on drive. I have been lucky enough to do this just once, we were on a deer drive and I saw him a long ways through a hemlock stand. Try that rotisserie guys/girls, I don't think you will be sorry.

Nothing mconwa!!! Bear hunting was damn tough this year. We had little action on our baits. Only a few baits were getting action. I posted a thread in the bow hunting forum on the hunt. Its an interesting read. Check It out!!
