If you are going from out of state and plan on bringing wood make sure that is legal. Some states might prohibit importation of wood to eliminate bugs not native to the area.

For those that take wood and have trouble getting it toburn at altitude.....
we take a couple of MAAP gas torches to get them started. Faster thanpropane as it burns a bit hotter.
AND, we take the fireplace starters from Wally World. The compressed wood type. I bought half a pallet of them on sale one Spring for a dollar a box. Box will do the whole camp for a week. They are light and do a great job. Break off a piece and place on the grate....pile on a couple pieces of wood (we bring mesquite/oak). Fire up the Maap gas torch a couple of seconds. The starter will get the wood going and then you can fill up the stove with wood.
NOW this is all predicated on the fact that your stove is constructed properly AND you have it vented properly? Which is to say that the stove is tight with the ability to control air intake and the stack is sufficiently tall enough to get a good draw? And make sure you have a spark arrestor on the top. Can't say that enough. It will not only keep from burning down a stand of timber, but will save your tent from getting holes in it too!
