Never had a problem with my Ruger 300 Win Mag... Good placed shot and down like a rock.

No need for a hand cannon for moose. They're huge, but not overly tough animals. A .270 with a well constructed bullet is adequate if you can shoot it well. Tons of people here in Alaska use the ol' tried and true 30-06 and we have the largest moose in the world. I use a .300 Win Mag., but that's just what I use for everything up here.

I agree with AK Jeff. The 30-06 is plenty to take down a moose. I use a .308 and have never had issues. This past season my rifle was used on 2....2 shots, 2 kills.

Doesn't really matter how far...you put a well constructed bullet from a .308 behind the shoulder and you've got a dead azz moose!

I was either going to use my 7mm mag or a .300 Weatherby Mag.

.308 or 30-06, 180 gr, good bullet, will do the job.
