7mm & Big Game
What is everyones experience and thought with the 7mm Rem Mag & big game (Deer, Elk, Moose, Sheep, Black Bear)? Is this sufficient for all big game, with say, a 160 Grain XP3? Or would a round such as a TSX be better suited?

In grizzly country I might feel undergunned for elk/moose....
I love the .338's for elk/moose etc.....you can hunt anything in NA well with them IMO. They are flat enough shooting for long range, and massive enough to stop a grizz. Perfect combo.
many guys would say that the 7mm rem mag is the best/perfect elk rifle cartridge, I don't think anyone would say that its a bad choice, just the argument comes up when talking about which is the best choice.....

7 is a great round. I always used a 7MM Mag, then when the Ultra came out up graded. Does a great job, flat shooting. I personally use the 140 triple shock Barnes, hand loads. Killed many elk with this round in the last few years. Moose I would worry about, if the roundcankill an elk, it'll surely kill a moose. I wouldnt disagree though the 300 or 338 would be better choices for big boned animals. Find yourself at long rangewith a bad angle shot, I would feel better with a larger cal. Other than that, the 7is a great round.

I have an uncle and cousins who have outfitted for decades, and they all use 7mags with great success on elk and deer, and swear by them. I personally like the 300 win mag better, but end results seem to be the same with both rounds.

No I think the 160 grain Winchesters XP3 would be a better choice but the Barnes TSX is still a very good bullet IMO i would use both flip a coin!

My 7mm rem mag has killed 7 moose, no not bragging, mylatefather was behind the trigger and I helped process every stinking one of them. Its plenty of gun. Hornady interlock, rem core lokt any fused round that stays together has done the job.

The 7mm Rem Mag is a great gun for elk and deer. As far as which bullet you should use, I'd bet more elk are taken with cheap soft points than any other bullet (I use 150gr GameKings), so any of the fancier, more expensive bullets should do just fine.
