Drew for premuim bear hunt
 

I just drew a premium bear hunt in Idaho. Starts the 1st of April. Nice thing is it is in my "back yard" so to speak, so I'll be able to do a little hunting after work as well on the weekends. This will be my first official bear hunt (where I'm not hunting something else) and hopefully an oppertunity to tag out on my first bear. It is a no bait/no dogs hunt, open steep country, so I'll be hunting with a rifle spot & stalk and not in a tree with a bow. Attached in the background is a glimps of the area I'll be hunting in. :)

Just excited? or any questions here? Congrats though, good luck! Still waiting to draw some tags this year..... I think wy antelope should be on its way.....then perhaps some lucky draw......but sounds like wy antelope will be the only wester hunt.

I just figured I can also use this thread as a running day to day and hopefully finish it off with a good story and photo of my bear :)

Suggestions are always welcome though...as when to catch one in the open, spot & stalk bear tactics, etc.

I'm hunting with a Remington Model 700, 30-06 topped with a Leopold VII 3 X 9 scope and using 165gr Core-Loc ammo. Looking to hit the green grass ormountain onion patches on southern slopes in early morning and late evening to catch a bear browsing. No bait or dogs, so I am not even thinking of setting a tree stand or even taking out my bow.

Has anyone here spot & stalked bear with a bow in open country??
