Wyoming elk hunt fall 2008 GEN Info/advice
Hey folks, I drew a GENERAL elk license for wyoming 2008 and am doing research on which areas to concentrate on with good numbers of elk and possibly some good bulls. I've hunted at the south end of the star valley several times, with some success, but sporadic at best. I'm looking into the areas around yellowstone, and have heard various reports, including that wolves have taken a tremendous toll on the elk populations. Somebody point me in thr right direction,. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

For a general tagI would go somewhere near Jackson or Dubois(Im not sure of the Area #). I have neve hunted there butI know alot of guys who buy general tags and hunt their. There is a ton of elk butI think like any general area there is going to be alot of hunters.

A general license gives me a chance to hunt in many various places throughout wyoming, both rifle and archery.
However, not in the highly sought after limited draw areas. more opportunity, but harder hunt. |

I hunted on a general tag the first year I moved to Wyoming. The hunting kind of sucked because I was still learning the area. I had to apply as a non-resident due to the one year waiting period, before you are considered a resident.
Last year I hunted on a general tag in the same area & killed a cow on my 4th-day hunting. Call the BLM office in the area you are looking at hunting, they will sell you a map for $5.00 Good luck hunting, WK |
