Is hunting your vacation?
Do you consider a hunting trip to be a vacation? I think alot of people consider it a vacation, though I think few of us would equate a hunting trip to be that of a relaxing on the beach type. I consider it more work....than a vacation. Your thoughts?

RE: Is hunting your vacation?
It's my vacation, but not the families...I do vacations with them as well but everyone knows that hunting is dads time to chill out and recharge. It may be work hunting but it is the best work I have ever done...

RE: Is hunting your vacation?
Vacation is not the right word to use for the grueling DYS hunt I go on. [/align] |
RE: Is hunting your vacation?
Hell yeah its a vacation. Hate the cites to vacation too. Dont really like the ocean beaches. I work out year long in order to be in shape for my favorite sport, so I can enjoy the mountains. Instead of the mountains enjoying me. I work hard all year at my jobso I can takethe fall seasonoff to hunt depending whatwe draw. Basically it boils down to, I live to hunt.

RE: Is hunting your vacation?
My wife and I usually take 2 vacations a year. We go on her vacation to the beach somewhere, then we take my vacation to chase bulls in Colorado. Though it's a stretch to call my hunt a vacation,it's way morefun than the beach, although I can enjoy sitting back and drinking a beer on the sand and doing some snorkeling. Something about the mountains I can't get enough of!

RE: Is hunting your vacation?
I don't like sitting around and looking stupid. Some do and that is fine. But to me relaxing is taking myself to the edge and back again.

RE: Is hunting your vacation?

RE: Is hunting your vacation?
Hunting is my escape in life....When I'm in the stand I'm in another place...in a zone only you guys and girls understand...a zone only a true hunter understands and feels....

RE: Is hunting your vacation?
to tell ya the truth i cant think of a better vacation. up in the mountains miles from everyone else, no phone calls, no bills, no cars, no annoying neighbors, no job, no clock. clean air, only animals and the campfire to keep you company. only the basics matter and nothing else....i cant think of anything better.

RE: Is hunting your vacation?
Amen, call it what you want. vacation is fine with me. I worked 11 13hr days overtime in 3
weeks to save up for last years colorado elk hunt. It was worth every minute. I was gone for 9 days but it flew by to fast. |
RE: Is hunting your vacation?
I consider it my vacation and always have. When i was in school, it was mine and dad's time to get away from the house and farm. Now that im on my own and only see my dad once a month or less, i still consider deer camp to be my vacation.

RE: Is hunting your vacation?
Yes;- we hunt as much as we can, taking the kids...but the 2 weeks during sheep season is like a yearly honeymoon for us.The babysitter bill exceeds every other cost, though!!
The nice thing, is that we take the 2 weeks off for sheep opener(Aug):- and then still hunt moose / bear hunt through late Aug/September, as our work schedules allow. We started homeschooling, primarily to accomadate/incorporatethe hunting/fishing ed. and lifestyle in our family..-Andgoat reg. starts Nov 5th.(& closes quickly due to quota...at least in our GMU). |
RE: Is hunting your vacation?
I would consider ita vacation.. But I can't seem to convice the wife.. :(
|
RE: Is hunting your vacation?
My life is one big vacation so a hunt is vacation. OBTW the Rockys are way better than the beach.
|
RE: Is hunting your vacation?
Our deer hunting trip is our vacation. The wife has two weeks plus vacation so we usually take a week to fish as well.
|
RE: Is hunting your vacation?
It's just my time to hunt. Vacation......not sure I'd call it that. I still like going on a traditional style vacation as well, but thats planned AFTER any hunting trips. :D

RE: Is hunting your vacation?
Sorry but hanging treestands, scouting, clearing out areas for foods plots and glassing fields every chance I can is not work. Thats what I love and enjoy. Plus just getting to spend time in this beautiful world god made us and just watching all the critters is AWESOME.

RE: Is hunting your vacation?
My vacation, but not the family's vacation. The best possible sort of vacation for me. Hard work, probably. Sweaty, probably. But the best possible sort of rejuvenation, refreshment, renewal, motivation for me.
|
RE: Is hunting your vacation?
I go on two vacations a year, both to the mountains. One in the summer with the family and the other in the fall to hunt. I tell people that my hunting vacation beats up my body and rests my mind! You better believe it is a vacation!
|
RE: Is hunting your vacation?
Yes, it's a vacation that I take about every weekend during the fall. The work aspect of hunting is fun to me. All of my "normal" vacations usually involve strenuous activity too.
|
RE: Is hunting your vacation?
My first post.
Yes, hunting is my vacation.....but it's no vacation! |
RE: Is hunting your vacation?
Yeah,multi-day remote hunting trips are a vacation of sorts.... a working vacation.... very memorable though.
I sure enjoy the other stuff though too, things the Colorado high country can't provide: scuba diving a brilliant coral reef, sailing from island to island, visiting different cultures, etc, etc, etc. |
RE: Is hunting your vacation?
Vacation: (noun) "a period of suspension of work, study, or other activity, usually used for rest, recreation, or travel; recess or holiday"
For me, that's a tuffy. You see, I live 1 1/2 hours (or less) from elk, deer, moose, lopes, bear, stream, river, lake fishing and hunting. So I can't call it a vacation by definition . . . Just another weekend in the woods! |
RE: Is hunting your vacation?
Yes, Hunting is a working vacation for me. The only hunting time I value, is time I spend hunting by myself. I take other people huntingalso, but I dread taking them along. I only take them because, I have to take them.[:o]

RE: Is hunting your vacation?
I keep one week of vacation time specifically for the PA rifle season, that is unless I have two weeks to use.
|
RE: Is hunting your vacation?
