My Newfoundland Moose
 

Hello Everyone..

Thought I would post my Newfoundland moose for all to see. I shot my Moose with a 12 Gauge H&R Ultra Slug...at the time I was using Lightfield Slugs....My guide said it was the first Moose he had ever seen killed with a 12 Gauge.

I shot him on 911....thats right 9/11/01 ..

He was shot at 110 yards through the lungs..after he ran 60 yards and laid down I shot him again...and the rest is in the photo album. Cherished Memories.

That is a sweet moose. Who did u go with? I went in 02 with Carribou Valley Outfitters and we took 2 meidum/small stags.It was a great hunt in some tough country ( Tuck brush). I want to go back for a moose.

I went with a few of em. Last one I went with was viking trail outfitters in the north.

Thats a fine looking moose. How many did you see a day? Last time I went, I only saw a handful, and none under 500 yards.

Congrats thats a fine lookin bull....
As big as some I've shot prior.
Bigger than the one I got this year..
Did ya call him in?

Just currious what time of year do you go, and what methods do ya use?....

Well, when you go in a camp that basically had 10 hunters thru it the week before and all scored, thats what happens. Newfoundland has alot of moose, but you take out 10 moose in a week, you have sincerely thinned the herd. Even if it is 10 square miles.

So how has been your luck in Newfoundland?

I have never hunted NFLD.....
Never booked a guided trip to a remote hunting camp.....
But I can see your point, thats too bad, did ya know it was gonna be that heavilly hunted when ya booked the hunt?..
Or did they lead you on alot......

This one outfitter lead me to believe it was like whitetail deer, and 10 moose were nothing. But in reality, 10 bull moose is alot

Oh well, I have had better trips to newfoundland and would like to go back.

Hey guys....sorry been out for a few days....

I had an early hunt and the weather was warm...the plan was to kill with bow but with warm weather things were slow...I marked a scrub bull and some cows on the first day....cows on the second...and on the 3rd day we stalked on this guy....The guide mouth called him into 110 yards and I set the bow down and grabbed the h&R....

He came at us calling...stopped at 110 yards and tossed a 15 foot tree around like it was a sapling....he's not a monster but after walking up on him....lets just say the rush and anxiety left me with a stomach ache....a hunt I will never forget.....He resides over my bed....the wife loves it.....:eek:

My 2 year old named him BORIS.
