I second the elk nut dvds. They blow the Primos calling dvd out of the water.

btw, they say you cannot make a bad elk bugle.....so many variations etc.....no need to worry really, just learn how to make the call bugle and dont worry too much, cow calling is more important, though I've never had much difficulty working a reed call for cow calling, also now they have.....the hoochy mama etc....and others like it.

and be in the woods, and listen......

I'm with salukipv1

Elk-though lots of fun are not rocket scientists.
Make any half decent call and they will pay attension when the season is right.
Calling other hunters is often a bigger problem so being a bit lowsey at least doesn't confuse other hunters. When my calling is real good I usually bring in lots of other 2 legged predetors.

What is more important is knowing when to close on a bull, or just waite.

RE: elk calling

Hunting during the rut phases of Aug-Sept-Oct is a huge advantage for the hunter with a bow or rifle. Don't be one dimensional, carry both a bugle & cow calls, your bugle/grunt tube is the most important tool out there bar none!! Problem lies in "How & When" to use it. Should you be a good or above average caller? You'd better be for best results on all bulls, not just sattelites. If you're not convincing & realistic sounding as the encounter gets closer you will become intimidated & clam up or resort to the cow call, big mistake in many situations! Learn what the sounds mean & adpt to your present encounter & use the sounds that fit the encounter, this will make sense to the elk & increase your odds of harvest dramatically!
